SECOND LIFE

Re-Use, re-cycle, re-work

- Gazèl is committed to giving new life to fabrics and to the responsible and informed use of resources -

SECOND LIFE is a circular economy project that gives new life to surplus fabrics and waste materials from other processes and uses social cooperatives and small workshops to create a new, completely Italian-made product.

The result is a product range that reuses existing materials and identifies company procedures and practices that are sustainable and respectful of the environment.

The Second Life project was eagerly adopted by the owners of Gazèl and the entire team who over the years have increasingly believed in circularity and environmental sustainability, working on the concept of the recycling and reuse of resources in first person.

In fact, we strive to ensure that all our products are sustainable in every phase, from the raw material through to design, production and collaboration with trusted partners.

We carry out quality controls right along the production chain to guarantee that our products are “good” for both people and the environment. These range from the careful sorting of waste in the company and the recycling of paper through to the optimisation of energy resources and the reduction of raw material waste.

We are working with our suppliers to create a circular system that enables us to recover the waste generated by the cutting of our products so we can begin using it in new garments. Together with trusted partners, we perform controls on all of the articles we market right throughout the production process to ensure that our fashion is sustainable, environmentally sustainable and ethical.

THE FASHION SECTOR IS THE SECOND MOST POLLUTING INDUSTRY IN THE WORLD

“The fashion sector is the second most polluting industry in the world. The production of both natural and synthetic raw materials causes deforestation and endangers the safety of farmers and workers in developing countries. It is also responsible for 20% of the world’s water pollution. In less than 20 years the volume of destroyed clothes has doubled from 7 to 14 million tonnes. How can we combine ethics with aesthetics?” (Source: LA STAMPA)

Even though we are a small company this issue is very important to us and our goal for the future is to invest in research into new hi-tech natural fabrics and raw materials supplied by environmentally sustainable partners: products with low CO2 emissions and water consumption during the production process, and which therefore use clean energy, directly monitoring the good conduct of suppliers and guaranteeing the overall quality and reliability of the products.

The garments and accessories produced using the best processes and the most sustainable raw materials are gathered together under the Second Life label so you can recognise them more easily.

Our aim for 2020 is to make our customers more sensitive to the themes of sustainability and respect for the environment, increasing our awareness of the FUTURE, striving to manage non-recyclable materials responsibly and transmitting the brand’s respect for the environment to the end consumer.

Two important initiatives have ushered in what will be a new way of thinking and working for Gazèl and, we hope, for our customers.

UPCYCLE: THE ART OF RECOVERY WITH ORIGINAL IDEAS FOR CREATIVE REUSE

From the partnership with a small local artisan workshop comes two lines of bags:
THE SDRAIO LINE AND THE VELA LINE.

The former involved reusing lengths of multicoloured fabric destined for pulping, fabrics previously used to make sunbeds and deck chairs, hence the name of the line (‘sdraio’ is Italian for deck chair).

We therefore RECOVERED deck chair fabrics from the pulp. We regenerated them and made them into wonderful shopping bags on which the brand image of the SS2020 Collection was printed.

The second line was produced with waste material used to produce yacht sails.
A shipyard supplied us with yacht sail fabric scraps and we used them to make indestructible beach bags.
The filmless material, specifically designed for sailing boats that navigate in adverse weather conditions, is reinforced with highly-resistant Twaron® fibre.

OUR BRAND IDENTITY WILL REMAIN A BLEND OF CRAFTSMANSHIP, ‘MADE IN ITALY’, RESEARCH AND CLOSELY CONTROLLED PROCESSES WHICH RESPECT THE ENVIRONMENT AND THE CONCEPT OF SUSTAINABILITY.

As well as adding products deriving from the regeneration of materials from other industries to every Collection, we are also committed to making our customers aware of the themes of respect for the environment and sustainability from the get-go.

Second Life is Gazèl’s way of supporting circularity, an objective we set ourselves every day in order to provide our customers with more ethical and sustainable products.

PET LOVERS & FRIENDLY

Our commitment to the wellbeing of animals includes ethical standards for the use of products of animal origin which respect the “Five Freedoms” of animal wellbeing for the ethical and responsible treatment of animals.

As supporters of the Fur Free Retailer programme and the Fur Free Alliance founded by leading brands, we guarantee our customers that we do not use fur and that we do not use leather or products deriving from the slaughter or exploitation of animals.

Our aim for 2020 is to make our customers more sensitive to the themes of sustainability and respect for the environment, increasing our awareness of the FUTURE, striving to manage non-recyclable materials responsibly and transmitting the brand’s respect for the environment to the end consumer.
